Some very overdue news. Back in July, my mum, sister, brother and I were invited to have tea in the House of Lords and have a personal tour by Lord Low, the Chairman of the RNIB. My brother couldn't make it as he was in the US, but the rest of us went along with my partner, Helen, taking the extra space.
It was a touching gesture by those at the RNIB, recognising my dad's work with other blind and partially sighted people in Cardiff. We had a walk through some of the rooms, the library, the hallway that the Queen enters by and finally had tea in the Peers' dining room with Lord Low, Lesley-Anne, Chief Executive of the RNIB and Ceri Jackson, Director of RNIB Cymru.
It was a great day, and a lovely tribute to my dad, (even if he'd have made straight for the House of Lord's Bar). Thanks to all those involved for the experience and special thanks to Lord Low for taking the time out.

On behalf of Lord Low I would like to invite you and your three children to join us and Ceri Jackson for tea in the Peers' Dining Room at the House of Lords in London on Monday 29 July. We would like to celebrate Spiro's outstanding contribution to changing the lives of blind and partially sighted people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and feel that this would be a fitting way to honour his work.
I know that Spiro was an inspiration to so many people. He embodied the hear and soul of the Insitute and he epitomised the 'Shand Spirit'of CIB's extended family of members, volunteers and staff.
